GLP-1 information without the hype.

Understand the science, ignore the noise.

What Are GLP-1s?

GLP-1 (Glucagon-like peptide-1) receptor agonists are a class of medications initially developed to treat type 2 diabetes. In recent years, certain GLP-1 medications have also been approved by the FDA for chronic weight management in adults with obesity or overweight with at least one weight-related condition.

That approval applies to specific branded products made by their manufacturers. Compounded medications — including the compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide available through NoBsRx — are prepared by licensed pharmacies for an individual patient and are not FDA-approved products. Anyone marketing a compounded GLP-1 as "FDA-approved" is telling you something that isn't true.

They work by mimicking a hormone naturally produced in the intestines that helps regulate blood sugar, slows digestion, and signals to the brain that you are full. Common active ingredients in this class include semaglutide and tirzepatide.

Why People Are Talking About Them

The intense public interest in GLP-1s stems from clinical trials demonstrating significant weight loss compared to older generation weight-loss medications. However, this hype has also spawned a massive industry of unregulated clinics, misleading marketing, and confusing pricing structures.

It is critical to remember that these are serious prescription medications, not casual supplements. They carry risks of side effects, require medical supervision, and are not appropriate for everyone.

What "Provider-Guided" Means

At NoBsRx, we emphasize that access must be provider-guided. This means a licensed medical professional evaluates your specific medical history before any prescription is issued. It is not an automated approval process.

What NoBsRx Does and Does Not Do

  • We DO provide a clear, transparent platform to connect you with licensed providers.
  • We DO insist on transparent pricing so you know the cost upfront.
  • We DO partner exclusively with state-licensed 503A compounding pharmacies.
  • We DO require pharmaceutical-grade APIs sourced from FDA-registered manufacturers, each verified by a Certificate of Analysis.
  • We DO NOT guarantee you will receive a prescription.
  • We DO NOT source from or work with gray-market or research-grade peptide suppliers.
  • We DO NOT make exaggerated miracle claims about weight loss results.

Compounded GLP-1s: What Quality Actually Means

Not all compounded GLP-1 medications are equivalent. A significant portion of the market is supplied by research-grade or gray-market sources — meaning the active ingredient was never intended for human use, was not manufactured under pharmaceutical standards, and may not have been verified for identity or purity.

The difference comes down to sourcing and documentation. Pharmaceutical-grade APIs are manufactured under stricter quality standards than research-grade materials and must come from FDA-registered facilities. A legitimate 503A compounding pharmacy requires a Certificate of Analysis (COA) from the API manufacturer before that ingredient can be used in a compounded medication. This document verifies the ingredient's identity, potency, and compliance with quality standards.

Research-use-only peptides sold outside the licensed pharmacy system carry none of these safeguards. There is no COA requirement, no FDA-registered source requirement, and no regulatory framework ensuring the product is what it claims to be at the dose listed.

Questions to Ask Before Starting

Before beginning any GLP-1 therapy, consider:

  • Is this a long-term commitment I am prepared for financially and medically?
  • Do I understand the potential side effects (e.g., nausea, gastrointestinal issues)?
  • Am I comfortable with injectable medications (for non-oral options)?
  • Am I willing to communicate honestly with a healthcare provider about my medical history?

Start with the facts.
